Sub Class 602

The Subclass 602 Medical Treatment Visa allows people to travel to Australia for medical treatment, consultations, or to support someone receiving medical care.

It is designed for applicants who :

  • Need to travel to Australia to receive medical treatment or consultation

  • Intend to donate an organ to someone in Australi

  • Are accompanying or supporting a patient who is receiving medical treatment in Australia

  • Are in Australia and need to stay for ongoing medical treatment

This visa can be applied for either inside or outside Australia, depending on your circumstances.

 Intend to travel to or remain in Australia for medical treatment or consultation

Have sufficient funds to pay for your treatment, travel, and living

expenses

Have arrangements approved by an Australian hospital or medical institution (if applicable)

Not have a condition that could be a threat to public health
 

Hold adequate health insurance or financial means to meet all medical costs

Visa application fees do not include medical treatment expenses. You must be able to show evidence of financial capacity to cover all costs related to your treatment and stay in Australia.

  • Wait for the visa decision – you will receive the outcome by email.

  • Travel to or remain in Australia for your approved medical treatment period.

01. Can I work or study on this visa?

No. This visa does not permit full-time work or formal study. You may only engage in limited, incidental activities related to your stay.

02.  Can my family come with me?

Yes. Immediate family members or carers can apply to accompany you on a separate Subclass 602 visa if their presence is necessary for support.

03. Do I need health insurance?

Yes. You must have sufficient financial means or insurance coverage to pay for all medical and hospital expenses in Australia.

04. Can I apply for this visa while I’m already in Australia?

Yes, you can apply onshore if you already hold a valid visa and require ongoing treatment. You must apply before your current visa expires.

05.  Can I extend my stay if I need longer treatment?

You may apply for another Medical Treatment Visa before your current one expires, provided your treatment is ongoing and you continue to meet eligibility criteria.
