This visa enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where employers can't source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

Requires nomination by an approved employer in a designated regional area

Must work in the nominated occupation for at least 3 years to be eligible for PR

Provides a pathway to permanent residency via the subclass 191 visa (after 3 years of regional work and income threshold requirements)

Most areas of Australia except Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane are considered Regional
Requirements:

For Labour Agreement Stream, you must be nominated to work in a specified occupation under the terms of a labour agreement

For Employer Sponsored Stream, be nominated to work in an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list

You must be under 45 years of age, unless the labour agreement states otherwise, or an exemption applies

You have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
-
You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience

You have a positive skills assessment (unless exempt)

You must meet minimum standards of English language proficiency

You must be sponsored by an approved employer located in a regional area

You must meet health and character requirements

Family members who do not apply for the visa with you might also have to meet our health and character requirements
